Addressing the Press in Dar es Salaam, the Commissioner of Conservation, Dr. Allan Kijazi said that TANAPA has increased the national reserve from 16 existing to 22, while in four years it has added six reserves including Burigi – Chato; Ibanda – Balance; Rumanyika – Karagwe.

Meanwhile, various efforts are underway to upgrade the Selous reserves and add to the new Nyerere, Kigosi and Ugala River reserves, which will have completed six national parks, covering an area of ​​104,559 square kilometers.

“TANAPA has done great things including extending wildlife into national parks and ending up with 22 reserves in the country, but we have been able to change the system from the Civil to the Army, where our new organizational structure was approved by the President, Dr. John Alcohol Joseph Magufuli and officially launched by the Vice President, Hon. Over the past four years, TANAPA has managed to increase revenue from Shs. 175,089,696,000 for the 2015/16 financial year; shillings 207,587,218,000 in 2016/17 and shillings 254,794,242,000 in 2017/18 and shillings 279,406,200,806 in fiscal year 2018/2019 as an increase of shillings 566,697,964,806 for three years equivalent to 60 percent.

Dr. Kijazi said that the increase in the revenue of the Agency was due to various efforts made locally and abroad to reach new markets where it enabled an increase of 957,576 tourists in 2015/16 to 1,141,462 in 2018/19, a 19.2 percent increase it is a testament to the great efforts that the Phase Five Government has been making to stimulate the economy through tourism.
Over the past four years TANAPA has increased government revenue from Shillings 31 billion in 2016/2017, to Shillings 42 billion in the 2018/2019 financial year, and has managed to allocate shillings 111,374,526,023.00, to facilitate the implementation of development projects in fiscal year 2016/2017 to 2018/2019.

He referred to the projects as enhancing tourism services, including the construction of low-cost accommodation (booths and hostels), projects to increase tourism products, staff houses, equipment such as boats, cars and aircraft for the purpose of increasing tourists domestically and abroad.

TANAPA has also implemented the directive of Hon. The President of the United Republic of Tanzania to put an end to poaching which, over the past four years, TANAPA has been able to strengthen wildlife protection and wildlife management and lead to a 10 percent increase in wildlife by 10% in National Parks, more than 90 percent of poaching. In addition, 14,464 poachers have been arrested and brought to various state agencies.

“The increase in livestock due to conservation protection has brought great success on the part of tourists currently increasing from 518,457 to 715,314 as a result of increasing tourist market scope in new markets in Asia and the Far East, especially Israel, Turkey, China and Russia, and this has led to high demand for accommodation ”, said Dr Generation.

He added that in that tourist increase so far the beds have increased from 2400 to 5,829 international tourists, and 3,601 beds to 4,970 domestic tourists making the total of 10,799 beds.
