The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has reported nearly 66.3 percent of deaths from dengue virus in Honduras with such deaths among children under 15.
The country’s health ministry has so far confirmed 89 deaths from dengue disease since January.
“Of the 89 confirmed deaths, 66.3 percent were under 15, and in fact, we are deeply saddened,” Piedad Huerta, a representative from PAHO, told reporters.
Honduras has been on the national alert since July 2 President Juan Orlando Hernandez said in addition that the recent dengue outbreak was due to climate change.
